Design Plan

After assessing the current state of the laundry room, I worked on creating a design that would serve the functional needs of this space as well as an aesthetically pleasing space. Here’s what I came up with.

The Wall Cabinet

Once the initial design plan was complete, I kicked off the makeover by snagging a tall wall cabinet from my local restore for $30! This budget-friendly find provided much-needed storage space without sacrificing style. With a fresh coat of high-quality paint, it seamlessly blended into the revamped aesthetic of the laundry room.

Peel and Stick Tile

While my friend already had these peel and stick tiles on hand, and they were perfect for this space! These easy-to-install tiles instantly upgraded the flooring, giving the laundry room a polished look without the hefty price tag.

Blue Paint Color

Choosing the perfect paint color can completely transform a room, and we opted for a dark shade of blue to highlight the new tile and overall feel of the space. Investing in high-quality paint ensured a durable finish that would withstand the demands of a busy laundry room while adding a pop of color to the space. I recommend using a cabinet paint to ensure it holds up to heavy use.

Open Shelving

To maximize storage and display opportunities, we built and installed open shelving along one wall of the laundry room. Constructed from leftover MDF, these shelves provided both functionality and style, allowing for easy access to everyday essentials while adding visual interest to the room.

Closet Rod and Gold Hardware

Small details can make a big impact, and we didn’t overlook the importance of hardware in tying the design together. By spray painting a scrap closet rod gold and incorporating second-hand hardware throughout the space, we added a touch of warmth and cohesiveness to the laundry room’s aesthetic without breaking the bank.

Epoxy Countertop

To elevate the functionality of the laundry room, we bought a 4×8′ sheet of MDF to build a countertop over the washer and dryer. We opted to resurface the countertop with epoxy after painting it white with a faux marble look. This budget-friendly solution not only refreshed the appearance of the space, but also provided a durable and waterproof surface ideal for folding laundry and completing household tasks.

Cabinet to Hide the Cat Litter Box

One of the most innovative aspects of this makeover was the addition of a custom-built cabinet to conceal the cat litter box. Positioned discreetly beside the washer and dryer, this clever solution transformed an eyesore into a seamless part of the laundry room’s design!

With a blend of creativity, resourcefulness, and a modest budget of under $200, we successfully transformed my best friend’s laundry room into a functional space that reflects her personality and lifestyle. By repurposing existing materials, incorporating budget-friendly finds, and prioritizing both form and function, this weekend makeover proves that you don’t need to break the bank to achieve a stunning home refresh.
