Easy Home Office Upgrade: DIY Zoom Background

In today’s remote work era, the home office has become more than just a functional space—it’s a reflection of our personality and professionalism during virtual meetings. As we spend countless hours in this environment, it’s important to create a workspace that inspires creativity and productivity. Both my husband and I work from home, and to be honest, our zoom background game was…non-existent. We have renovated almost every room in our house except for the office so I knew it was time to change that.

I decided on an easy DIY project using hexagon tiles from FeltRight. Not only did this product provide a visually appealing background for virtual meetings, but it also served a practical purpose by significantly reducing echoes and noise in the room, thanks to the sound-dampening properties of the felt.

Before + After

The journey began with the removal of the existing wood paneling, which I had previously painted white. After the paneling was gone, textured the drywall to ensure a smooth surface for the upcoming paint job.

With the walls prepped, I applied a coat of primer and painted the entire wall with matte black paint.

Once the black paint dried, it was time to bring in the star of the show—the hexagon felt tiles. These tiles came with everything you need! Using the spacer tool and adhesive tabs provided, I arranged the tiles in a random pattern on the wall. The adhesive tabs ensured a secure attachment, allowing for easy repositioning if needed….And two years later, they haven’t budged! If you know me, you know I love a dark teal/emerald color! I went with the color “Emerald” from FeltRight and was so happy with the color when I received the tiles.

The result of this DIY project surpassed my expectations. The once mundane home office was now transformed into a stylish and functional workspace that we aren’t embarrassed to go on video in front of!
