Build a $13 Barn Door from 100% Reused Materials
Are you looking to add a unique accent to your home without breaking the bank? Look no further! In September 2019, I built this barn door for our basement utility closet using 100% reused materials! And the best part? It cost me just $13!
Here’s a look at how I transformed scrap materials into a beautiful barn door without the need for a step-by-step tutorial!
Materials Used
- Barn Door Track
- Barn Door Handle
- Miter Saw (you could definitely use a circular saw as well!)
- Level
- Clamps
- Wood Glue
- Brad Nailer
First things first, I invested in a barn door track and handle, which were essential components for this project. Everything else? Well, that’s where creativity and resourcefulness came into play. I headed to my local restore and scoured through their selection of scrap trim pieces, 1x2s, 1x3s, 1x4s, and whatever else I could find that would fit the bill. The beauty of using recycled materials is that each piece comes with its own unique character!
As for the finishing touches, I rummaged through my stash of leftover paint and wood stain from previous projects around the house. Not only did this save me money, but it also ensured a cohesive look with the existing decor.
And finally, after hours of hard work and dedication, the transformation was complete. Whether used as a functional door or simply as a decorative element, it’s a focal point in any space. Not only is it a budget-friendly option, but it also allows for a creative outlet and promotes sustainability by reducing waste.
So, if you’re feeling inspired to roll up your sleeves and get crafting, take a cue from my $13 barn door project and let your imagination run wild. Who knows what treasures you’ll create from what others may consider to be trash?
