Fun + Easy Bachelorette DIY: A Twist on the Heart Shaped Sunglasses
Heart-shaped sunglasses have become an iconic accessory for bachelorette parties. These shades add a touch of fun and playfulness to the celebration, with the bride-to-be typically wearing white glasses while the party attendees rock pink ones.
If you’re looking to make them a bit more unique, I have an easy and creative craft idea for you. By gluing embellishments such as resin flowers onto the frames, you can personalize these glasses for everyone!
Materials Needed
- Heart-shaped sunglasses (white for the bride and pink for the party guests)
- Resin flowers (assorted colors and sizes)
- letter beads (optional)
- Clear-drying craft glue (I used e6000)
- Toothpick or small craft brush
- Tweezers (optional)
- Newspaper or a protective work surface (I love this silicone craft mat!)
Prepare your workspace + gather your supplies
Start by laying down a layer of newspaper or a protective surface to prevent any glue or resin from damaging your workspace. I love this silicone craft mat for an easy clean up! Ensure that you’re working in a well-ventilated area. Choose an assortment of resin flowers, rhinestones, or other embellishments in various colors and sizes. You can find these at your local craft store or online. I ordered these flowers! Make sure they compliment the color scheme of the sunglasses. Opt for shades that will stand out against the white or pink frames.
Arrange the flowers
Before gluing, lay out the flowers on the sunglasses frames to experiment with different designs and placements. This step will help you visualize the final look and make any necessary adjustments before committing to gluing.
Apply the glue
Once you’re satisfied with the flower arrangement, it’s time to start gluing. Apply a small amount of clear-drying craft glue to the back of each resin flower using a toothpick or a small craft brush. Use just enough glue to create a secure bond without excess oozing out from the sides. Carefully place each resin flower onto the sunglasses frame, pressing it firmly to ensure it sticks. If needed, use tweezers to position and adjust the flowers for the desired placement.
Note: Remember to exercise caution while working with glue and use protective equipment if necessary. E6000 has a strong smell so I recommend working in a ventilated area or wear the appropriate mask.
Let it dry
Allow the glue to dry completely as per the instructions provided with the adhesive. It’s important to be patient and let the flowers firmly attach to the frames to ensure they stay in place.
Clean up and final touches
Once the glue has dried, check the sunglasses for any excess glue residue. Carefully remove any stray glue using a toothpick or a small craft brush. Inspect the sunglasses to ensure all the flowers are securely attached.
This easy DIY craft allows you to recreate these classic sunglasses to match the theme and color scheme of your event. Have fun crafting and enjoy the festivities!
