Transform Your Space and Mind: Creating an Affirmation Gallery Wall

While I was wrapping up my upstairs full bathroom renovation project, I realized I had a lot of blank, white wall space in one corner of the room. It needed something, so I took that opportunity to transform this space into a daily affirmation reminder to start and end my day!

Before + After

Let’s check out how I pulled this gallery wall together in two days!

I wanted visual interest in this corner of the bathroom, but didn’t necessarily care for color. I opted for black picture frame and black-and-white artwork and quotes for a cohesive look. Also, I felt like the lack of vibrant colors ensured the affirmations took center stage.

The first thing I did was head to thrift stores and gather as many black frames or varying sizes. I highly recommend thrifting frames to make this budget-friendly! I got all of the frames for under $5 each which was awesome. The majority of them were only $2.

Next, it was time to plan the gallery wall arrangement. I took some graph paper, and measured out the bathroom walls to scale (one square=1 inch). Then, I cut out squares of graph paper to the same dimensions of each frame. The arrangement of your affirmation gallery wall is an art form in itself! I rearranged, rearranged, and rearranged some more before landing on the perfect layout. I wanted two inches between each frame and I was finally able to achieve that. After I had it all figured out on paper, I placed the frames on the floor in the corresponding layout.

Next, it was time to choose the affirmations and artwork for each frame. I counted how many horizontal versus vertical frames I had, to keep in mind while choosing the artwork. I wanted a mix of text, photographs, and drawings.

The affirmations you choose for your gallery wall should reflect your personal values, aspirations, and the positive messages you want to surround yourself with. Take the time to explore various sources such as books, poems, or even write your own affirmations that resonate with you!

Here are the affirmations I chose

  • Today is a fresh start.
  • Take up space.
  • Exist Loudly.
  • I have magic in my bones.
  • Be you.
  • I accept all of my quirks and uniqueness.
  • Give ’em hell.

Here were more affirmations I loved, but didn’t have room for!

  • I am right where I’m supposed to be.
  • The universe wants me to succeed.
  • I am enough.
  • I am whole.
  • I trust myself.
  • I deserve good things.
  • My gifts are needed in this world.
  • Actually, I can.
  • What, like it’s hard?
  • good things are coming.
  • it’s ok to not do it all.
  • good as hell.
  • keep showing up.

I bought digital download art and also created some of the pieces on Canva! Then, I printed some of the artwork at home, and for the larger prints I used Walmart’s same day poster printing service.

It’s finallyyyyyy time to get the art on the wall! Using a level and a measuring tape will ensure straight and accurate placement. I bought 2 inch painters tape and used that to measure around the frames. This was a quick and easy guide between each frame instead of having to mark and measure numerous points for each piece. I used a mixture of nails and command strips to make sure each frame was securely fastened.

I am so excited about how this project came together! Now every day when I enter the new bathroom, I’ll be greeted with a positive reminder. I truly believe taking a few moments to reflect on these affirmations can help make a world of difference.
